Listen to Shirley's Story

As of April 2012 last year, Shirley, associate pastor of Sunnyside Church in Portland, Oregon, was especially passionate about
ministering to children and their families. Shirley arrived in the United States in 2002, after almost 10 years as the church ministries director for the Cape Conference in South Africa, following some years as a teacher and school principal in Adventist schools there. She first served in the Oregon Conference as the associate director of children’s ministries and has ministered at Sunnyside since September 2006. Shirley holds several teaching qualifications as well as a BA in biblical studies and education from the University of South Africa and a Master of Philosophy in Bible skills from the University of Stellenbosch. Skyping her children and grandchildren in South Africa and her children in Ghana is her favorite pastime, as well as spending time with her husband, Dave, who also serves in the Oregon Conference.
