Social Security

By Dr. Roland J. Hill

Don’t worry your social security is safe! With all the talk about the government Social Security program running out, I thought you might need some assurance. But the assurance isn’t in government program God’s Social Security Program. I came to understand this concept growing up in a loving home environment.  Not one night did I go to bed worried about the next meal that’s because I always felt secure.  Yes, there were plenty days when things were slim, but I never feared going hungry because I trusted in my parents. My father and mother provide my siblings and me social security. They were our safety net.  But in my adult life, like you, I have struggled with feelings of insecurity. Can God supply my needs? Where is the safety net as I walk my financial tight rope? Will I have adequate income in my retirement years? These are the questions of insecurity. Wisdom people move passed the questions of fear to the life of faith. They learn to trust their Heavenly Father who makes this promise, "The LORD does not let the righteous go hungry." Proverbs 10:3a  ESV. This simple straightforward nugget reveals God’s safety net, a social security program that’s out of this world. Do yourself a favor today and become a child again. Trust your Heavenly Father. He will not let you go hungry spiritually, materially, or physically.

The Prayer
Heavenly Father, I've lost the innocence of childhood and I’m struggling to trust You as my Father. Instead of putting all my trust in You, I find myself seeking security in human social systems only to feel even more anxious and unsafe. So I thank You for reminding me that as Your righteous child, I will never go hungry, that Your children will never be forsaken or their seed begging bread. Seal this assurance in my spirit by Your Spirit, dear Lord, so I can start walking through life fearlessly. In Jesus name I pray Amen.
